NYC Marathon Winner 'Just Went Out There And Had Fun'

An article from The Onion from way back, but still worth a look… you know you’re a runner if you read this and think to yourself ‘what’s so funny?’

Onion Article from ’05, NYC Marathon Winner Paul Tergat

Priceless. Just priceless. Sounds like Tergat's goal was "to just get to the finish line in one piece!" I think this year we'll hear a lot about his take on the no headphones rule at USATF certified events. I mean, at mile 25 who doesn't need "Like a Prayer" to pump them up?

I prefer "Jungle Love" by Morris Day and The Time, myself.

Well, y'know, 'life is a mystery, everyone must (run) alone...
I hear you call my name, and it feels like... home.'

Ha! I'll never forget hearing some guy running alongside me in the Brooklyn Half last year, and his headphones were blasting music so loudly I could hear 'Borderline' clear as day. 'Feels like I'm going to lose my mind...'

For some reason the article just made me sad. I can't figuer out why, I have to think about it.

Really what is so funny about that article......non runner's don't understand the power of endorphins. And about that no ipod rule, you know maybe if they put bands on the course like they do for the Rock n' Roll series, it would help, plus in NYC it wouldn't be like there would be a shortage of groups trying to get stage time. ING New York City Marathon and battle of the bands...could be huge. Go for the race stay for the concert

Now I've had bloody socks, but not bloody footprints!
